Metacritic - Introduction
This is an online website where it lets the public rate the newest films, music, games and television shows that have been released. Each rating put across is given an overall rating by the website owners. This rating will out of 100 and also have red, yellow and green color system to show the contrast between the medium ratings of each film. The rating shown will be given based on what people have been saying about it in their reviews. With this the site will create an overall rating which people will see next to the movie. As well as looking at people's rating they also look over the comments and scan over the tone of the person while writing their review As well as looking at people reviews when giving an overall rating, the site runners also give their own opinion on the movie. Then as well as the public's reviews, critics reviews are also looked over. They dont just take the critics review, they also look at the fame and reliability of them as a person. Overall the rating is out of 100 but this is not a number but a percentage. The site was originally created in January 1999 by Jason Dietz, Marc Doyle and Doyle Roberts. As well as showing ratings of the films, it gives a summary and a link to each film. It also gives information such as the running time of the film and the types (for example in a horror aspect: a slasher).

How This Information Helps
Using the Metacritic website instead of looking at recent movies with good ratings, I looked up the greatest rated movie of all times. The ratings that I looked at are based on critics review so they are reliable. Most of the films that were in the top 10 were made in the 21st century and one has not been released yet. By looking over these films I think that the most successful horrors of all time seem to be poltergeist. These are curses off object or people that then release a ghost that can move around people's belongings. People also seen to enjoy possessions or haunting creatures. Using this information I can say that our idea for our opening title sequence will be a success as like the Babadook the stories told are coming to life.
